Dr Ahmed Zakareia
About
After graduating from Alexandria Medical School in 2001, Dr. Zakareia pursued qualifications in general adult psychiatry across Egypt, Qatar, and Australia, gaining a wealth of experience in diverse cultural and clinical settings. His exposure to various cultures and languages has enriched his humanistic approach to psychiatry, enhancing his understanding of the complexities of the human condition.
He went on to complete advanced training in child and adolescent psychiatry in New South Wales, Australia, in 2017 and is currently working toward the RANZCP Advanced Certificate in Psychotherapy. Since beginning his psychotherapy training in Queensland in 2015, Dr. Zakareia has become skilled in multiple therapeutic techniques, including CBT, DBT, MBT, ACT, and Family Therapy, and is a candidate trainee with the Queensland Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Association (QPPA).
Dr. Zakareia has held significant leadership roles in public health across Northern NSW and Perth, including head of a community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and clinical lead for a Youth Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorder Service. His extensive experience with patients of all ages gives him a comprehensive understanding of developmental psychology, further strengthened by specialised training in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) assessment using tools such as ADOS and 3di.
With a passion for pharmacogenomics and nutritional psychiatry, he began part-time private practice in 2019 and plans to transition to full-time practice in Perth in 2023. His approach is marked by collaboration, empathy, and a strong commitment to evidence-based care.
